When I read the synopsis for Seductive Shadows, I was intrigued. A story about a young girl who loves art and finds love with a mysterious guy with blue eyes, (seriously she had me at baby blue eyes ;)); I must say this book did not disappoint. This story delves deeper into the main character’s emotional and inner struggles and is much more than just another erotic book. It’s thought provoking, and at times a little heavy. Marni has a true talent for story telling, that I am sure of. As a reader, you always try to guess what the secret is, or what’s going to happen next, but with this one, I was wrong every time! Just when I thought she had me, Marni threw a curve ball that made my jaw drop.
Charlie hasn’t had it easy, at all. Her mom doesn’t care about her and she doesn’t have anyone else. Her escape from her tough reality is her art, and she’s great at it. Everyone at school can see her potential, which makes her wonder what her future might be in the field. Everything seems to be going smoothly, but something is missing in her life. Charlie is beautiful, she knows this, but she isn’t one for relationships. She has the love of a boy that would fall at her feet but it’s not enough. The opportunity to express herself and open her mind, body, and soul to others comes up and she takes it knowing very well that it’s not the best decision, but she needs the money. Her mom is sick, she has no problems with her sexuality…it seems like a done deal. Things start to change when she finally opens her eyes and sees things much clearer thanks to Cameron, her male counterpart, who makes her question everything. Cameron brings out her need (and want) for more out of life, making her believe that her world can be bright again. It’s never easy, and Charlie’s past comes crawling back right when she’s ready to move on, and the only person that can help her is the last person she would’ve ever imagined.
Like I said, this book isn’t just your typical read. It’s mysterious and thrilling! Seductive Shadows is a provocative story of a girl’s journey to self discovery. As the synopsis states, this is definitely a book for mature audiences, but if you like to read books that have more complex issues then get ready for a hell of a ride.
